RAIN!! BLARG! China must have an impressive drainage system

I apologize for my little vacation away from the rice bowl. This week was kind of rough, but had the silver lining of Obama fever pulsing through the second half.

1. I need to buy new clothes. My pants are loose, thanks to my new rice/toufu/noodle/green vegetable diet. Finding pants that fit sucked enough in a country where a significant portion of the female population is taller than 5' 7''. Ughhhh. I also don't particularily remember enjoying shopping in America- when I didn't have money. Now, I have lots of money but am constantly paranoid of being screwed over with their haggling system here (although- I actually feel like I should be paying more anyway given my relative wealth) and near constant confusion.

2. Niu rou chou mian. Basically the safest food to order here. And oh so tastey. Pan fried noodles with my favorite green vegetable and beef. YUMMMMM.

3. The other day I had dinner with some other Chinese, English teachers. One of the teachers had her parents visiting and her mom dances every night at home. She was such a good dancer! And did this semi-slow version of a swing dance. Then dad showed off some of his tai chi. Then I showed everyone how to dance to "Cotton-eyed Joe." Hopefully we will become friends.

4. Apple-flavored milk/drinkable yogurt. The Chinese love drinkable yogurt- and to think, people scoffed at my love of yo-j in the states. This has the word 'nutri' in the title and has '15 nutritional components'. I think it is very good for healthy.

5. The past week and a half I've seen the sun once I think. RAINRAINRAIN!!!!

6. Thumbs down for the university expecting me to contact the building supervisor to notify her that my make up classes always meet in room 201 on Mondays. Who, by the way, speaks no English.

7. Thumbs up for this Obama business. The Chinese like Obama. I like Obama. And watching his victory speech puts a hop in my step. I text messaged- a lot of people. And got about 45 messages in one day. Easily, a new record.

8. Apparently you can not wash the inside of the big fluffy blankets here. My new blanket is a light green with tiny flowers.

Well, I finally have a weekend with no big plans. Failed to network to go visit my lover in Hangzhou, so instead I think I'll read a nice book. Or maybe even finish one...

Sunshine, rainbows, ect.

LYNN!

Don't think that I have forgotten about you due to the lack of commments. That is far from the case. I check your blog every few days for updates.

It seems like everything is going very well in China, except for the whole language thing. Don't worry though, you will continually increase your Chinese dictionary. It is just a matter of time.

I will write you a longer message soon, when i don't have work or papers to do. I am glad the Chinese like Obama too. Have fun with your free weekend.

Peace!
